Driveway Side Yard

Three years later it’s finally time to rid ourselves of that awful side yard I’m embarrassed to say is part of our property.  If you remember the post We Tackled The Beasts, it had all the before shots of our juniper haven.  Here’s a shot of the junipers removed and the diseased Chinese Elm gone.

We later had our stump guy grind down the stump with his giant machine for $50.  Over the weekend, the husband took on the task of removing the grass, er… weeds.  He elected to go the back breaking route by manually removing with a shovel versus renting a sod cutter.  The first step was to divide the property line (from our neighbors) with stakes and twine.  Then, the three hour digging, scooping, and dumping process began.

Over the three hour process I kept hydrating and feeding him so he wouldn’t quit.  It was 80 degrees with no clouds in sight.  I didn’t ask if he enjoyed it.  I already knew the answer!

Here’s an after shot with the grass and weeds gone.

Next weekend, we’ll rototill the dirt, incorporate organic compost, add a drip system and get started on our pallet project that’ll be going into the side yard.

Keep checking back to see our progress!

Grandma Shelly - What a huge undertaking! Can’t wait to see what you do with the pallets.
